Founder's Message
True sanctity and strength arise through knowledge, and the empowerment of women is its foundation. Every girl, irrespective of caste or creed, deserves the light of education and the chance to live with dignity. The sisters are called to teach with compassion, nurture virtue, and guide others through faith and service. Education is the path to liberation and self-reliance, transforming not only individual lives but entire communities. Even amid hardship, stability and perseverance must prevail, sustained by prayer and unwavering faith. This mission stands as a living testament to divine love, uplifting humanity through the enlightenment and dignity of women.

History
HISTORY OF THE CONGREGATION
In the mid-19th century, Pondicherry was a key center for French M.E.P. missionaries who recognized the dire situation of women in India, where they were regarded as second-class citizens and female education was seen as a curse. Believing education was essential to restore women’s dignity and strengthen families, a synod of priests in 1844, led by Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, emphasized the need to start a congregation of indigenous sisters dedicated to women’s education.
Despite facing strong opposition due to prevailing social norms, Fr. Dupuis, a man of deep faith and vision, worked tirelessly to establish this mission. His efforts culminated in the founding of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Pondicherry on October 16, 1844, marking a significant step toward advancing women’s education in India.
HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Immaculate Heart of Mary Higher Secondary School was established as the seventh school of its Congregation on 25th April 1863 by Rev. Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis M.E.P. Inspired by a strong vision to empower women through education, the school has always been dedicated to supporting the economically marginalized and less privileged members of society.
Beginning with just four students at the Primary Level, the school achieved Middle School status in 1968 and was later elevated to a High School in 1982. Through divine grace and the enduring support of the Congregation, the institution was further upgraded to a Higher Secondary School in 2006.

Our Motto
The motto of our school leads the students from ignorance to knowledge and also from darkness to light. They are taught to lead a morally upright life with all the virtues like truth, honesty, simplicity, humility and magnanimity.
Our Goal
To ensure that girls from every stratum of society and particularly from weaker sections are welcomed and are given education from the Primary Level upto the Higher Secondary Level.
